Hi Friends! It’s December and time for another fun hop. The cue is Furry Friends and I am super excited to see all of the creations! I have two little dogs that bring me tons of joy! Now on to the cards….

Card #1 – “All Ears“

I love this basset hound image. It is such a realistic image, I just want to hug him. Who can resist his floppy ears and affectionate eyes?!

To create this card I chose a pattern paper of holly and adhered it to a kraft card base. Next I die cut the border die in burgundy. I stamped the hound in black on kraft and colored him with Prismacolor pencils. I stamped the speech bubble, cut it out, colored it and added Nuvo stone drops on the heart. These drops are gritty, matte and have a vintage feel. I stamped and cut the sentiment on patterned paper. I cut a creme square and blended ink over it to create a background for the sentiment.

I adhered all the pieces and tied a burgundy organza ribbon at the top.

He is so cute! This is a unique holiday card for a recipient that might be stressed and overwhelmed during this time of year.

Card #2 – “Darling Menagerie”

This panda bear was not the bear intended in the set. I found an embossed bamboo scrap and it lead me to this idea! I looked up Panda images and discovered I would not have to do tooo much to turn it into a specific species of bear!

To create this card I stamped the bear on white cardstock and using grey Copic markers I colored in the eyes, ears, arms and feet. I fussy cut it out. Next I adhered the bamboo panel onto a thin black border to make it stand out. Then I adhered it to a piece of patterned paper and then to a white cardbase.

I stamped the sentiment in Memento pear tart and then in random areas with VersaFine green oasis. This gives the sentiment a little character and movement. The panda is then placed at an angle in the lower left corner. A double bow of chartreuse burlap string and matching dot embellishments finish the card!

Card #3 – “Brand & Emma Good Morning” by Phyllis Harris for Unity

Nothing makes me more happy than a wet kiss from one of my puppies!

I stamped this heart-warming image on watercolor paper and filled it in with holiday colors from my Mozart watercolor set. Using a sentiment I received in my last order, I stamped it directly on the cardfront. Hearts from the set were next, I felt there was more empty space to cover so I adhered a peace die I had previously cut. Red jewels were added for balance and festive glow to finish the card!

Card #4 – “Peek-A-Boo Cats“

I am allergic to cats so I always call myself a dog person. Lately I have a new appreciation for the sweet feline qualities as I admire a beautiful calico cat that visits our backyard every day.

To create this card I die cut the front of an A2 heavy white cardbase with a fancy MFT die. I penciled in the square area on the inside and stamped the cat. Next I stamped the fun sentiment above the image making sure it fit inside the square. I colored the cat with a mix of copic markers in browns and tans.

I randomly stamped cat pawprints by Hero Arts on the front. I might have been covering up smudges on the card, but nobody needs to know this secret! A soft, green cushiony heart finishes the card.

Hello crafty friends! It’s November and the cue for this month is slimline. A long and lean shaped card is a nice change from the A2 size I most often make. Have you made slimline cards? I hope you might feel the need to try it out or revisit or just keep making them with this hop… new designs on a longer space to create is a fun challenge.

Card #1 – “Winter Boy and Girl” by Lisa Glanz for Unity Stamp Co

A sweet couple caught in a little bit of wind and snow. They were so much fun to watercolor with distress inks. I decided to keep the color scheme limited and I resisted adding in evergreen trees.(I will save that for next time)

I stamped and embossed the snowflakes in blue pearl and the sentiment in black sparkle. I added Stickles to the snowflakes.

Then I die cut the panel using a Gina Marie mini-slimline border die. Finally I added a fine red edge and glued it to a white card base.

Card #2 – here comes amazon

There is something about a string of lights… I love to stamp these images on a card. Maybe because it reminds me of the beautiful lights my mom would decorate our tree with every year. They were large, bold and so colorful!

To create this card I began with a previously made background of blue distress ink on watercolor paper. Next I die cut a card front using a Gina Marie stitched slimline die. Then I stamped the lights at the top and bottom. Yellow filled in the center and then various colors surrounding it, blended with water to transition the colors together. The best thing is that yellow blends well with all the lights except for purple–I was careful to just add a touch of yellow to that bulb.

I painted in more yellow in the background. Don’t you just love the warm glow! Next I stamped the sentiment from “…cheerful prancing” (I will be using images from this set in my next card) in red Versafine Claire ink. To give the sentiment a more bold appearance against the blue, I added Versafine Claire grey ink to the left side of the stamp.

A fine black frame grounds the card before adhering it to a white card base. Finally I added a few Nuvo Jewel drops around the sentiment. I love the artsy yet festive vibe of this creation!

Card #3 – …cheerful prancing by Lisa Arana for Unity Stamp Co

Once in awhile I stamp an image without any firm ideas of what I am going to make. For this card, all I knew was that I wanted to emboss the outline of these deer in clear.(I made a rhyme) I have always admired this set– loving the posture and handsome long lines of these images.

To create this card I die cut my front panel with a Gina Marie mini slimline in white. Next I stamped the image in Versamark ink and heat embossed with clear powder. After blending greens and pinks for the background I misted the entire panel dissatisfied with the look. After drying it, I blended in browns around the edges, working in the color but careful to leave an untouched circle for the moonlight! Filling the deer in with browns, darkest areas on their backs so that the white acrylic paint(next step) would be a striking contrast. And don’t forget the white tail!

The next step was stamping the confetti like image that comes in the set. I started with the antlers and worked around the edges of the moonlight. I used Versamark ink and heat embossed glitter powder over it. I wanted more sparkle, so I dabbed liquid glue on same areas and sprinkled on a layer of fine glitter.

Still not quite done, I picked up an old stamp of trees and repeatedly stamped them using Versamark ink to give it a watermark effect. I pondered over and over what sentiment to use and I decided to leave it just as it is. A sentiment can always be added later and I didn’t want to ruin the effect of the light and instead have the sentiment become the focal point. For me this card is dramatic and the only sentiment that kept coming to mind was “the thrill of hope” and I didn’t have a stamp with these words!

Hi Friends! It’s October and the scenery is changing ever so quickly. Our blog hop theme this month is “Build A Scene”, so fitting. It just occured to me that the cards I am sharing are not definite autumn scenes. Maybe because I am still enjoying our last few days of warm weather here. I loved creating these cards as I imagine myself in these places to escape and find a moment of peace and relaxation.

Card #1 – A coffee meet up

One of my favorite things to do is to meet up with a friend or friends for coffee. I love sitting outside and catching up on all the latest life adventures. When I look at this scene, I can feel myself sitting in one of those chairs.

I stamped the Unity stamp image called “…your own happy” on watercolor paper with Versafine black ink. I used various distress inks to paint in the color. Next I inked up “Love & Wisdom Background” in red and stamped it over the left side and top edge. Then I blended a few shades of browns around the edge. For extra character, I heat embossed antique gold over the perimeter of the card. Bits of red glitter embossing powder adds sparkle too. I stamped a coffee stain image from “Beautiful Elements” mixed media – Kit 1 by Jo-Ja for Unity. Burlap string, a white button and a gold metal embellishment finishes the card.

Not planned, I just noticed my choice of red and green color scheme could be given as a Christmas card!

Card #2 – Herd it’s your birthday

I love this cow and the farm scene in the back. I grew up in a tiny farming town so country vignettes are special to me. I used Tierra Jackson’s “Have You Heard?” stamp set she created for Unity. The barn background is Unity’s “Time to Shine”.

I stamped the cow on watercolor paper. Next I masked the ear and stamped the barn images. Then I watercolored it all using distress inks. I stamped h-e-r-d from an old alphabet set and embossed it in red glitter. (hard to see!) I framed each letter on black. Then I stamped the sentiment and framed it on black too. I die cut the cardfront using a double stitched mini slimline die. Finally I glued all the pieces on the card and added a olive green embellishment.

I left the upper right corner blank. I was going to add clouds or birds, but sometimes it’s nice to leave empty space on the card.

Card #3 – Restoration

Something about this scene just makes me feel restored. Maybe that’s why it is called “Restoration” by Unity! I decided to try my hand at a night scene. I wanted the lights to illuminate the sky and create a focal point with the hammock below.

I stamped the image in black ink on watercolor paper. I blended and painted distress inks on the cardfront careful to keep a circular area lighter than the rest of the scene. I painted the lights yellow and added Stickles glitter glue for sparkle. Next I painted the hammock and pillows. I added yellow glitter glue on the lower pillow and jewel drops on the red upper one. I die cut a Hero Arts frame, tearing parts off to add character and adhered it to the card front. A smoky grey base finishes the card.

I left off a sentiment because I didn’t want to interrupt the mood. Inside I will stamp “take a rest”.

Hi to all! It’s September and time for another blog hop. Have you transitioned into Fall and cooler temperatures yet? I am slowly getting there feeling the light chill in the air. It’s a great time for cardmaking, we have lots of fun ideas as “Technique” is the cue this month. Come along and let’s discover old and new techniques together!

Card #1 ~ “Inked Florals”~embossing, watercolor

A beautiful flow of mood evoking color contrasted with black heavy lines can be quite striking. I began with layers of Blueprint Sketch distress ink over a panel of watercolor paper. I stamped the image with Versafine ink in black and heat embossed with clear powder. Embossed images adds so much texture and creates a shiny surface. A mix of distress inks brings the flowers and background to life. I kept the colors fluid yet somewhat defined. Large, dusty-plum metallic brads on a sentiment strip finishes the card.

I raised the sentiment with double sided foam. This gives the card depth.

Card #2 ~ “Coolest Chick Ever”~jewel drops, crystal lacquer, glitter glue

This adorable hen is just too cool! Embellishing with all kinds of extras often takes a card to another level. Not only is it somewhat pleasing to the eye, but fun to touch and feel. To create this card I pooled a few distress inks on watercolor paper. I stamped the chick and sentiment in Versafine ink. I framed it on red and then adhered to the card base.

I applied 3D crystal laquer on the glasses, Stickles glitter glue on the bow and Nuvo jewel drops in random areas on the card. How much fun is that?!

Card #3 ~ “Always Better”~paper piecing, clean and simple, bit of color, layered stamping

This adorable girl and fox duo is so detailed and intricate, I decided not to color it. I stamped the image twice, once on a cardfront and once on patterned paper. I fussy-cut out the dress and hair band. I adhered the pieces. Next I stamped the flowers with Speckled Egg distress ink. Then I stamped the sentiment overlapping the flowers. I die cut the panel with a Gina Marie Designs stitched die and framed it with a fine black edge before adhering to a white cardbase. Finally I splattered very tiny specks of ink for interest!

Card #4 ~ “…more than beautiful” by Phyllis Harris for Unity ~ layered stamping, mixed media, washi tape, complementary colors

Phyllis Harris, the artist, captures such a beautiful sense of peace and calm. Her images are always amazing stamped and lightly watercolored, This time I decided to play around and add layers with a little bit of a mixed media style mindful not to overshadow the character.

I began by stamping the image on white and coloring her with copic markers. For the sentiment, I used Peacock Feathers distress ink. I stenciled a heart shape over the image with Kitsch Flamingo distress oxide ink, making sure to avoid the girl’s face. Roughing up the edges with scissor blades and blending ink around the edges in teal, pink and brown gives it that worn feel. Washi tape, string and a heart die embossed in gold embellishes the card. Needing a little more to fill space, a heart flurry does just that! A pink base and a teal hair streak finishes the card!

The stencil fills in the dress and gives it pattern which also can be viewed with a translucent/see-through quality.

Hi everyone! It’s August and the Friends of Unity are celebrating “Angie Girls” created by Angie Blom. Angie creates many images for Unity Stamp Company but is probably best known for her beautiful depictions of women called “Angie Girls”. I love them so much!

Card #1 – Hannah Girl

To create this card I stamped Hannah in VersaFine Clair ink but instead of black I accidentally stamped her in grey. Deciding to experiment, I kept going, I found the lines faded with color blending.

Next I watercolored the image using Tim Holtz distress inks. Then I stamped the sentiment in VersaFine Clair black ink and heat embossed with clear embossing powder. Using a fine point black Sharpie, I dotted the flower centers and applied clear Nuvo Jewel drops. I noticed the flower centers and sentiment really stood out on the card and I liked the effect.

I die cut the cardfront with a Gina Marie border die and adhered a soft green heart for a little extra embellishment. Finally, fuschia string on the fold completes the card!

Card #2 – Catherine Girl

Continuing on with the fun, I stamped Catherine in black Versafine ink. The mini slimline scalloped border is by Gina Marie Designs.

Deciding the tulips were going to be the “Queen of the Night ” variety, purple and black ink works great to achieve this color.

The jeans are a nod to acid wash jeans of my time! I stamped the sentiment in VersaFine Clair black ink, added Nuvo jewel drops and adhered to a black card base to finish the card. Tim Holtz distress inks were used to color the images.

Card #3 – Shari Girl

Now a fun card with an adorable puppy! I stamped Shari in VersaFine black ink and colored her with watercolor Prismacolor pencils. I loosely blended pigment and you can see I did not worry about staying within the lines.

Next I added touches of green for grass. I used green VersaFine Clair ink, stamping it vertically for repetition, balance and interest.

I die cut the panel using a favorite Gina Marie border die. Finally I dry embossed a yellow panel slightly smaller than an A2 card, adhering this to the cardfront and then to a light grey cardbase.

I often stamp more than one image. I included the card on the left even though it is almost the same as the one on the right. I love color pencils on kraft. Light colors like white and yellow seem to come alive! Also sometimes it is refreshing to make a one layer card with no embellishments and sentiments!

Hi Friends! It’s July and I’m here with another blog hop. The theme is “Watercolor” and Crystal challenged us to stamp out sets we’ve never used! I was ready for this because a few months back I decided to put a sticker on all the Unity stamps I had created with just to see how many stamps had not seen ink. Surprisingly enough, I had inked up a pretty good amount of my stash. For this hop, It was pretty easy picking out fun stamps that needed an inking!

Card #1 – Beet

“Beets For You” by Joslyn Nielson for Unity Stamp Company is perfect for summer, I love to flower garden but am super excited because my husband just created an “above the ground” vegetable garden. Now we can also enjoy fresh vegetables!

I stamped this image on watercolor paper and painted it using purples and cerise to recreate the true colors found on a beet! I even added a little brown for dirt, not yet washed off. Two greens for the leaves and then a beautiful blue backdrop to complement the subject. I roughed up the edges with a scissor.

I stamped the sentiment in black Versafine ink, added a wash of blue and splattered the beet-colored paint. The heart and pearl embellishments help balance the green around the card. For the background, washed watered down green over a panel. I splattered purple in large drops and blotted them with a paper towel before drying completely. This gave it a blurred effect. Small splatters on the beet and another pearl embellishment finished this card.

Card #2 – Marigold Sunshine

Every summer, I plant an assortment of yellow, orange and red-orange marigolds! They are so bright, bold and beautiful. The garden is not complete without brilliant spots of these sunny flowers. I cannot plant these on ground level as slugs find them irresistible.

I stamped “October Marigold” by Sandhya Iyer for Unity Stamp Company. It is a large image and I had a time deciding which variety to paint. I went with orange petals outlined in yellow. I loosely applied greens to the leaves allowing them to bleed over the edges. I washed yellow all over for the background and bright orange frames the card. I die cut the panel with a wonky stitched border by Gina Marie Designs. The sentiment is embossed in “Black Magic” by Ranger.

I tied a sheer yellow ribbon lined with satin around the card front before gluing it to the card.

Card #3 – Tiny Yet Lovely

Oh for the little delights in life! Here’s to the start of a day with a drink of choice and a donut and yes a cupcake, not a muffin…. a cupcake!

“Sweet, Warm, Whipped” by Angie Blom is an adorable, fun set of small goodness with the cutest personality. I stamped the mug, the mug with whipped cream and the cupcake on watercolor paper. I painted them using like colors before fussy cutting them out. Then I stamped the donut and drink with a straw directly on a cardfront of watercolor paper. I painted these two images and adhered the other pieces, allowing them to overlap. I painted shadows beneath the images for grounding.

I chose two sentiments the set came with and I stamped them vertically on the cardfront. Notice the dot of teal I added between the sentiments. I thought it helped carry the color over the card for a feeling of continuity. I trimmed the edges just enough so that a thin layer of black shows to frame the card.

Hi Friends! Welcome to The Friends of Unity Blog Hop – June 2023. This month’s theme is all about “Masculine” cards. I dug around my Unity stamp stash and picked out some images I thought would be fun to ink up. They are a bit of vintage, grunge, mixed media, silly and outdoor vibes.

Card #1 – Olive You!

This card came together using three Itty Bitty stamps from Unity. I just adore the olive guy and especially the shapely mustache I gave him!

First I stamped the sentiment on a white card front. The gears, I stamped in metallic ink. I blended distress black around the edges. I stamped the olive on watercolor paper, painted him, stamped the mustache on his already cute face, and then fussy cut him out.

I stamped the olive again exactly where I wanted to place him on the card, careful not to ink up the woman olive. When the man olive is glued to the card, the hand with the heart is already there! I colored the heart. I stamped just the sentiment “olive you”. Then I die cut the card front and glued to a royal blue card base. Silver Nuvo drops smashed around for texture finishes the card.

Card #2 – Call Me

What I love about this card is the background crumpled paper that came from a shopping bag. My daughter saved it because she knew I could reuse the paper. I am always a fan of vintage images! I never had a phone that looked like this but definitely had a dial phone with an extra long cord for those private conversations. One of my friends even had a party line! The party line was where her household shared a phone line with a neighbor.

To create this card, I found a piece of leftover watercolor paper I had made previously. These sure do come in handy! I inked up the telephone with brown ink and the “me” with red. I die cut the image using a fancy stitched circle die and again with a larger die in vellum. I crumpled up the printed paper, adhered it to red leaving a hint of color around the border. Washi tape laid down and red twine tied up with a button!

Card #3 – A Good Man

So these boots are the coolest, most realistic image! I can actually feel how rugged, worn they are and smell the pitch from pine trees on them. I wanted this card to have a layered, mixed media feel.

This card involves two Unity Kit of the Month sets. I love combining stamps. On a white card front I stamped a background that resembles rain in a medium blue ink. Next I stamped the trees in two shades of green and brown ink at the lowest portion. Using the same darker shade of green, I stamped the sentiment at the top and continued across and down. I double stamped to get a lighter image. I left the lower third unstamped.

The boots were next. I stamped them with Versamark ink and sprinkled a navy embossing powder over the ink and heat embossed. I painted the boots loosely using green, brown and grey. To create the sign, I stamped the sentiment on white and blended distress ink unevenly oner the top. I die cut the woodgrain frame and blended brown ink over it too. I punched holes in the top corners and threaded burlap twine through. I used three copper brads to resemble nails. I adhered the sign at an angle and popped it up. Finally, a few green Nuvo drops embellishes the card.

Hello, it’s Day 5. I had such a wonderful week with you! I’m sharing my last card of a bicycle image… where a ride will be taken in a peaceful countryside, after a gentle rain with fresh air and clear blue skies.

Not only is this card a clean and simple one, but soft and subtle too. I used the lightest whisper of color, just one embellishment and a rough edge mounted on a pale neutral card base.

What I love about this image is that the stamp is only part of a bicycle and the angle of the wheel is interesting. I stamped the bicycle in light grey.

Then I chose the lightest colors of Copic markers I could find. Most were in the 000’s or 00’s. I colored the flowers and if you look closely, the frame is a pale green. Everything else is shades of grey.

Stamping the sentiment in VersaFine Claire morning mist was just the right amount of intensity.A navy pearlized embellishment balances the image. Roughing up the edges defines the lines. Finally I glued the card front to a neutral background.

More sunshine, more happiness please! Today is the day to have fun and be playful. So how about a card full of energy, bright color, and a touch of fancy?!

To create this card I stamped the image with Versafine ink on watercolor paper and painted the image with distress inks. Next I ink blended salty ocean onto a scrap of paper. Then I die cut it out with a Sizzix thinlit resembling a water splash. I cut the splash in two before I adhered it under the sentiment. This makes the splash appear larger. I stamped the sentiment with red Versafine ink and framed it with a thin border of black.

I love the variation of reds and browns in her hair. The flowers are die cuts from a Poppystamps floral set. I ink blended the flowers and two of the centers are cut from gold glitter paper. What a fun embellishment! Adding 3D Crystal laquer to her sunglasses would be a great addition too. Finally I added a thin black frame to the card front before adhering to a kraft card base.

It’s Day 3! Clean and simple is a style I have been intrigued with. The CAS card is often quick to make but not less appealing. It is also a design that a cardmaker can see and say “oh I can make that!” which is the fun part about sharing ideas.

I love this “fun size” card (A1), the smallest card that can go through the United States Postal Service. An 8.5″ x 11″ sheet of card stock makes four cards. Envelopes can be purchased. This size is often used for RSVP responses.

Without hope, I just can’t think about how to get through those times of trouble. If feeling hopeless, tell someone and ask them to hold hope… I believe it works.

For this card, I stamped the image in Versafine ink. I outlined the anchor with light grey and gave the bottom portion a wash of teal and grey. I splattered fine specks of teal over the anchor.

I love rain in small doses because it freshens the air and feeds my plants. If a rainbow appears, an unexpected bonus! I have grown to embrace the dark especially in the morning I love to get up early and watch the sun light up the day. Of course, looking at stars is something I do too and it always makes me realize how small I am in this giant universe.

I stamped the image in Versafine ink. I painted the ROYGBIV colors on this tiny rainbow and then dotted each color outside the lines. I added Stickles glitter glue, (maybe too much) which covered up most of the color, but I think it represents the twinkling stars.

Wow, this verse is so powerful and comforting. Safe and secure….

I stamped this also in Versafine ink and painted the feather in purple, red and teal. The red watered down becomes a coral pink tone. I painted outside the lines and added purple fine splatters. (the yellow color in the lower left corner is not on the card but a shadow from where I took the picture)

Going to sleep at night and waking up with a new, refreshed outlook is always a wonderful start. Mornings are the best part of the day for me and you might already know how much I love to walk around my garden at sunrise.

I stamped the image in the lower left corner. I often like things off center, it makes it more interesting. I will punch a hole in the upper right and make it a gift tag! I painted the flower with reds, oranges and yellows. The leaf is shades of green. Dots of paint outside the lines and fine splatters in red.

I just love this set so much “Having Hope” by Brooke Smith for Unity Stamp Company. It is just perfect if you aren’t fond of painting but want to add a little color. These are so easy to make and so much more can be added to them too. It makes a nice gift set for a friend and just all around joy to create!
